Fayette Mall closes food court over reported illnesses
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) Fayette Mall is temporarily closing its food court after the Health Department received 150 reports of illness from people who ate there.
Chick-Fil-A was one of the first restaurant’s to shut down after reports of illnesses among employees and customers. Now, every restaurant in the Fayette Mall food court will join them.
The Health Department says most of the people that have made reports suffered from vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. It believes the illnesses likely started from a stomach bug, but are still looking at a direct cause.
“We think that this is a person-to-person illness. It’s not an illness that people are getting from one specific food source like a certain bad batch,” said Kraig Humbaugh with the Health Department.
The Fayette Mall says in a statement that it’s going to clean all areas of the food court, public and employee bathrooms and the nearby play area.
