Fayette County School Board delays action after debate over stables program
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – There was a large turnout at Monday night’s Fayette County Public Schools Board of Education action meeting, which lasted five hours. Officials say more than 55 people signed up to speak during public comment.
Much of the discussion centered on the district’s budget and concerns over potential cuts to the Stables program at the Kentucky Horse Park. The alternative program gives students the opportunity to work with horses in a non-traditional learning environment.
Several speakers, including former students, voiced support for the program. No decision regarding the future of the Stables was announced.
The board also considered audit committee recommendations related to the district’s budget shortfall. Members ultimately voted to postpone action on those recommendations.
The next board meeting is set for Monday, December 8.
