Fayette County Public Schools to make decision on Tuesday classes by early morning

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) will wait until early Tuesday morning to decide if students will head back to classes that morning.

In a statement, FCPS noted that while efforts are ongoing to improve conditions on secondary roads, cold temperatures could lead to additional freezing, complicating travel for buses and families.

“With this in mind, we plan to drive bus routes tomorrow morning beginning at 2:30 a.m.,” the post stated. “This will give us time to gather additional information and make the best possible decision for our students.”

The district plans to announce any updates regarding school operations for Tuesday, January 14, by 5 a.m. Families are encouraged to stay tuned to the district’s social media channels and website for the latest information. ABC36 will also have the information available on air and online.

“The safety of our students and staff continues to be our number one priority,” FCPS emphasized.

Stay updated for further announcements on school status.
