Fayette County cancels school Friday amid teacher protests
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – So many teachers in the Fayette County Public School system called off Friday, the district was forced to cancel classes. The school system is on spring break next week.
The teachers are angry over the passage Thursday night of a public pension reform bill by state lawmakers.
The state’s second-largest public school system in Lexington says since so many teachers called-off, there weren’t enough substitutes available to fill the vacancies.
Clark, Jessamine, Madison, Scott, Montgomery, Johnson and Martin counties also cancelled classes on Friday.
Magoffin County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Friday.
