Fayette Co. school district discusses new random search policy

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Fayette County school board will discuss plans to keep kids safe in school.

The Herald Leader reports the board will discuss a new policy for random searches using metal detector wands.

A letter from Dunbar High’s principal to parents says administrators would use the wands following “a non-discriminatory, random selection process.”

This comes after a freshman shot himself in the hand Friday at Frederick Douglass High School.

On Friday, Superintendent Manny Caulk announced Douglass will be the first school in the district to get fixed metal detectors as soon as possible.
