Father drowns while saving stepdaughter in creek
GRAHN, Ky. (AP) — A Carter County man lost his life after saving his stepdaughter from drowning.
WSAZ-TV (http://bit.ly/1P2jYpP ) reports 30-year-old Michael Scott Barker and his family were four-wheeling by Big Sinking Creek near Grahn Saturday night. Barker’s sister, Jessica, says his middle school-aged stepdaughter was cleaning off her shoes in the water when she fell in and got her foot caught on something.
A Carter County coroner says Barker went into the creek and got his stepdaughter loose, but couldn’t make it out. A dive team with the Grayson Fire Department helped recover his body.
Barker is survived by his wife and three children.
