Fast food worker in Manchester tests positive for hepatitis A

MANCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – An employee at a McDonald’s on Muddy Gap Road in Manchester tested positive for hepatitis A, according to the Cumberland Valley District Health Department.

Health officials say the infected worker did not handle food directly.

Anyone who ate at the fast food restaurant between October 30 and November 16, 2018, can seek protection by getting the hepatitis A shots.

All restaurant employees were offered the vaccine, according to the health department.

People should get the first shot within two weeks of possible exposure, according to health officials.

The restaurant was closed on Friday for a thorough cleaning and sanitation.

Hepatitis A is a viral infection of the liver that can cause loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, fever, stomach pain, brown-colored urine and light-colored stools.  Yellowing of the skin and eyes can also appear.

People can become ill up to seven weeks after exposure.
