Fashion at the Breeders’ Cup

Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ) — The Breeders’ Cup World Championship doesn’t just have the worlds’ fastest horses; it’s also a call for unforgettable fashion.

Fashion at the races plays a key role in the sport of racing, according to the official milliner of the Breeders’ Cup, Christine Moore. Moore says fashion has helped to reach the female audience. “The tracks have realized they have to bring in women… And entertain women who bring the men in more of a family event,” says Moore. “In that way, you end up regentrifying and regenerating the sport.”

She says once the women get into fashion, the men don’t want to be outdone by their wives. “They want to be a team,” says Moore. She says often men will make sure the hat band matches their tie and their wife’s outfit.

Fashion at the Breeders’ Cup is focusing on cleaner, straighter lines. It’s more of a couture look as opposed to the Southern belles you see at the Derby, according to Moore. She says you expect to see more pant suits, suits and dresses.

“The fabrics that are being used are heavier and the colors are darker,” says Moore. She says green, plum, burgandy, purple, grey, black and white, cream and other related colors help to celebrate fall.

She says felt hats and fedoras have been selling well at her booth at Keeneland. Other hats, fascinator, hatinator
