Family’s Odd Rock Is Really A Meteorite
A man picked up a rock from a cow pasture in Tennessee in the 1930’s.
At the time, he didn’t realize that this wasn’t an ordinary rock.
He used it as a decoration in a flower bed.
His Granddaughter, Donna Lewis, from Bell County used the rock as a doorstop until she decided to have it checked out.
That’s when she found out that it’s actually a meteorite.
“You know, your mind just can’t comprehend something that old,” Lewis said. “Over four and a half billion years old. It’s amazing. So I’m glad it’s came here so people can see it. And kids can touch it and see it. That’s what I wanted done with it.”
Lewis donated the meteorite to EKU.
