Family, police ask for help in solving pregnant woman’s murder

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) -It’s been a week since Maryiah Coleman, 22, was gunned down right in front of her apartment complex as she walked her dog.

Police, friends and family continue to search for answers and are asking for the public’s help. Coleman was one month away from delivering her son, named Jakobi — who also died.

“There’s a lot of questions,” said Coleman’s cousin, Perry Wooldridge. “Going through the grieving process of a murder is a lot different than a normal death”.

In hope of finding some answers, Maryiah’s family set up a hotline for tips Tuesday.

Lexington Police are also reminding everyone that they can give a tip anonymously through their Bluegrass Crimestoppers Hotline (852) 253-2020. Wednesday police continued their investigation by knocking on doors and asked for tips in the Windburn Drive Neighborhood where the shooting happened.

Coleman’s family told ABC 36 they believe someone knows something about the night Maryiah was killed and should not be afraid to come forward.

“There’s truly no honor in holding information from the murder of a 22 year old pregnant woman and she lost her baby,” said Wooldridge. “There seems to be this code in the street where you don’t snitch. There’s no honor in that because we’re trying to honor our loved one. We’re trying to grieve and move on and through this process get justice”.
