Family of Lexington shooting victim still seeking answers five years later
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — It’s been five years since 20-year-old Zion Clark was shot and killed in Lexington, but his family is still searching for justice and closure. The deadly shooting occurred in the 500 block of East Second Street in March 2020. To this day, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been identified.
Zion’s mother, Tiffany Clark, recently spoke with ABC 36 about the pain of losing her son and the impact his death has had on their family.
“I miss most about Zion, his smile. I miss everything about Zion, like everything. He and Zaria was a big part of my will to live,” Tiffany said.
Zion was known as a calm and laid-back young man who never got into trouble. According to Tiffany, his smile was one of his most memorable traits.
“Zion was a cool, laid-back kid. Never got in trouble. Never. Only thing that Zion did was smile,” she said.
The lack of answers has left Zion’s family in a state of limbo. Tiffany described her emotional journey as one of constant fluctuation.
“One minute I’m angry, one minute I’m happy. One minute I’m dealing with acceptance and then through faith, through a lot of faith, and through some determination with Zaria, I pull through because I know that I gotta keep fighting for Zion,” Tiffany said.
Zion’s death has taken a heavy toll on his twin sister, Zaria, and their entire family. Tiffany says Zaria is pursuing her dreams, but Zion’s future was taken away.
“I love him totally, unconditionally. We had dreams that were shattered. Zaria’s fulfilling her part of her dream, but my son… Zion won’t ever get that chance to be the welder and the best welder in the world,” Tiffany said.
Tiffany is pleading with the public to come forward with any information about her son’s murder.
“I’m just asking for a piece of a closure so that my son can have justice because he was a true victim. Lexington, let’s stand up and speak up. Be courageous, because as long as we are scared and afraid of who or what somebody is gonna do, we’ll never have closure,” she urged.
Zion Clark’s case remains an unsolved homicide under the Lexington Police Department. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Bluegrass Crime Stoppers.
