Family evacuated from Florida stuck in Kentucky, living in car

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – As evacuated families are making their way back to Florida to survey the damage, one Orlando family is stuck here in Kentucky.

Frank Davidson says his family’s truck broke down as they tried to get back home. The Davidson’s say they have been living out of their truck behind the Shell station on North Broadway since Tuesday.
Headed back down South, the family says their truck’s transmission gave out.

“It just went out, I reckon the load was too much for the transmission and I was able to hobble to the store Tuesday morning. We got the family photos, fishing equipment, stuff we can survive on.”

After losing everything from Irma, Davidson says he can’t afford a $1,400 car part to get home.

“We were actually looking to get some work, and supposed to get some work Monday to try to fix the transmission.”

Davidson says he can’t thank the Lexington community enough. He says one woman got the family a hotel room and food.

“Lexington has really shocked me, because home from where we are at, you don’t see that, but the community around is pretty helpful.”

But he said his kids are the one’s who has helped the family make it through.

“They make the best of it, the kids do, they try to keep the spirits up and wait it out.”

Davidson says he hopes to be up and running by next week, because the family has a long road ahead, getting home, and rebuilding once they get there.

If you would like to help this family you can contact Lexington police or ABC 36 News.
