Family Escapes House Fire
Around 12 people escaped a devastating house fire at a home along U.S. 60 in Rowan County Thursday night.
Firefighters got the call just after 10 p.m.
They said when they arrived, they found nearly half the home engulfed in flames.
Firefighters said the fire was likely started when some ashes from an upstairs fireplace fell onto some storage materials in the home’s basement.
Firefighters said it took a while for them to get the fire under control.
They said they had to bring in water tankers because there are no fire hydrants in the area.
The home is considered a total loss.
The family was having a gathering, so there were about 12 people inside when the fire started.
Everyone made it out safely.
The family also got their pet cat, Munchkin, out of the burning home but she then ran off during all the commotion.
Family members are still searching for the cat.
