Famed basketball player Terry Mobley passes away

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The University of Kentucky announced the death of Terry Mobley Monday.

The Harrodsburg native was a member of the UK Wildcats under Adolph Rupp from 1962-1965. He garnered national attention when his 15-footer with four seconds left propelled No. 2 UK to an 81-79 win over rival Duke University during the Sugar Bowl Classic in New Orleans.

The university says Mobley was groundbreaking leader of its fundraising efforts, spanning more than five decades.

Mobley passed away Monday morning after a long illness, according to the university.

He was 74.
