Falmouth officer fired gun, arrested for domestic assault: Citation

PENDLETON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 39-year-old Falmouth, Ky., police sergeant was arrested early Sunday for allegedly vandalizing his girlfriend’s home, assaulting her and firing five rounds from a handgun near the woman and her daughter.

Mark Douglas McClure was arrested at about 3:45 a.m. Sunday at 1084 McNay Road six miles northwest of Falmouth in in Pendleton County, according to an arrest citation filed by Pendleton County Deputy Nathan Reinhardt.

McClure is charged with fourth degree domestic assault.

McClure is a sergeant with the Falmouth Police Department, according to the department’s web page. He has been with the department since 2018. He previously work with the Paris, Ky., Police Department and the Park Hill Police Department.

It’s unclear what disciplinary action has been taken again him. Police Chief Shannon Clem has not responded to a request for comment about the arrest or a series of potentially inappropriate posts McClure made previously on social media.

According to the citation, Reinhardt and a Falmouth Police officer responded domestic all at the McNay Road address at about 1:25 a.m. Sunday involving McClure and his girlfriend, Tonya Taylor. The two had begun arguing after having “friends over for drinks,” according to the affidavit, and the argument went from name-calling to physical, with McClure throwing items off the porch and flipping Taylor out of a chair.

Taylor’s daughter “came out screaming,” and Taylor told the girl to go back inside the home. The girl shut the door and locked McClure outside, but he went to the rear of the home and used a 2-by-4 board to smash a window and gain entry, according to the affidavit.

McClure grabbed a Smith and Wesson .38-caliber Special off the top of the refrigerator and fired five rounds outside where Taylor and her daughter were. McClure then went back inside the home and began breaking items and throwing things at the living room wall, according to the affidavit.

Officers took pictures of broken windows holes in the wall and bruises on Taylor’s arms, police said.

McClure posted bond later Sunday.
