Facebook Helps Catch Accused Robber
Richmond Police said after they posted a suspected robber’s picture on Facebook, someone identified him.
Around nine Wednesday night, Richmond Police said the Subway at 2161 Lexington Road was robbed at gunpoint. According to them, the suspect parked at a nearby gas station and walked there. They said he went in, demanded cash and fled.
Officers said photo of the suspect was posted on the RPD Facebook page Thursday and it didn’t take long for someone to identify 43-year-old Wendell D. Wells.
Police said Wells was arrested early Thursday morning in Bellville, Illinois for an unrelated DUI. While be searched, police said Illinois State Troopers found a handgun, believed to be the same one used in the robbery of the Subway.
Police also said Wells had cash on him, believed to be part of the stolen money from the Subway. He was arrested and taken to the St. Clair County Jail.
Richmond detectives said they got a warrant for the arrest of Wells and charged him with Robbery 1st degree and are working on his extradition.
