FAA investigators on the scene of plane crash in Scott County
The plane, piloted by Mark Conrad, was originally headed to Somerset, Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton said. Conrad’s son Aaron and Somerset businessman Ron Absher and his son, Johnathan, were all returning from a week of fishing in Canada.
According to FAA reports, the plane made a pit stop in Dayton, Ohio and they started flying back Kentucky at 8:23 p.m.
About 30 minutes after the plane took off from Dayton, the FAA reports show that the pilot declared an emergency.
According to the Sheriff’s office, the pilot told air traffic controllers that he was going to try and land at the Georgetown-Scott County Regional Airport.
Witnesses told the sheriff’s office that they saw the plane hit a small embankment at the beginning of the runway and then the plane bounced and slid.
Three of the four people on-board were flown by helicopter to University of Kentucky Hospital. The fourth person, Jonathan Absher, was taken to an area hospital by ambulance. The sheriff’s office says he was released early Sunday morning.
The sheriff’s office says the pilot, Mark Conrad, and Ron Absher are still listed in serious condition at UK Hospital. Aaron Conrad is also at the hospital, but listed in fair condition.
FAA investigators arrived at the airport early Sunday morning and will be coordinating with the NTSB to determine the cause of the crash.
