Ex-soldier sent to southern Kentucky prison
PINE KNOT, Ky. (AP) — A former U.S. soldier based at Fort Knox has been sent to a federal prison to serve an 18-month sentence for taking part in a scheme to divert loaded fuel trucks from an American military outpost in Afghanistan.
The federal Bureau of Prisons lists 29-year-old Albert Kelly III as an inmate at USP McCreary in Pine Knox, Kentucky, a high-security facility on the Kentucky-Tennessee state line. He is scheduled for release on Nov. 11, 2015.
Kelly pleaded guilty in February to taking $57,000 from an Afghan trucking company and diverting 25,000 gallons of fuel from Forward Operating Base Salerno near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border in exchange for cash.
The one-time Army specialist was also ordered to pay the United States $100,000 in restitution.
