Events expected to cause traffic delays around Lexington Friday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Drivers are being warned to expect delays as they travel around Lexington Friday.

According to the Lexington Police Department, traffic congestion and some street closures will be in effect due to:

– University of Kentucky commencement ceremonies at Rupp Arena (10 a.m. and 2 p.m.)
– Oaks Day racing festivities at Keeneland
– Visit from Vice President Mike Pence

Lexington Police have issued a general traffic advisory in the areas of downtown/Rupp Area, Keeneland, Blue Grass Airport, and Loudon Avenue. Traffic is expected to be heavy in those areas beginning late Friday morning and continuing into the evening rush hour.

Police are asking drivers to be patient and to allow extra time for their commute.
