Events across Central Kentucky to celebrate Veterans Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Happy Veterans Day! There are several events happening across Central Kentucky to recognize those who have served in the United States Military.

Camp Nelson National Cemetery 

  • Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville hosting memorial.
  • Begins at 11 a.m. at 2353 Hartland Parkside Dr., Lexington, KY.
  • Guest speakers, memorial wreath laying, and rifle salute.

Frankfort Veterans Day Parade

  • Parade begins at 10:45 a.m. at the Commonwealth Credit Union in Downtown Frankfort.
  • Lunch gathering after parade at VFW Post 4075.
  • Speech by Lt. Col. Carla Raisler of the Kentucky National Guard.

Rededication ceremony of the Lexington’s World War I Monument

  • Rededication ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at 650 Southpoint Drive.
  • Mayor Linda Gorton joining representatives of American Legion Post 8 and Post 132.
  • The event marks the 100th anniversary of the monument’s original dedication in Lexington.
  • Event includes music, a wreath-laying ceremony and remarks from leaders.

According to the Central Kentucky Veterans Committee there are a total of 16.2 million living veterans in the United States of America. Today marks the 106th anniversary of Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, which marks the end of World War I.
