Estill County still under boil water advisory

IRVINE, Ky. (WTVQ) – As of Friday, everyone in Estill County had running water again, but all residents remained under a boil water advisory, according to county officials.

An estimated 100-people still had very low water pressure, according to officials.  The water distribution center at the Estill County Fair Barn will be open Saturday, February 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  People can receive free bottled water if they show a current water bill or have their active account number, according to officials.

The county still needs an estimated 800,000 gallons of water to be back to a normal operation, according to officials.

All residents are being asked to conserve water usage and boil all tap water to be used for cooking or drinking for at least three minutes until further notice.

Water officials say people who want to run a trickle of water from faucets to help prevent pipes from freezing, should do it from just one tap at a stream no larger than a pencil lead.

The critical water shortage and boil water advisory are the result of burst pipes and heavy usage following bitter cold weather, according to officials.
