Estill County animal shelter asks for help after rescuing a large number of dogs from hoarding case
RAVENNA, Ky. (ABC36 News Now) — The Estill County Animal Shelter is asking for the community’s help to adopt or foster dogs after a major animal rescue has left the shelter at capacity.
Animal Control Officer Chris Winters said he executed a search warrant Friday at a home on High Street in Irvine, where he found dozens of small-breed dogs living in filthy conditions. Pictures shared by Winters show many of the rescued chihuahuas and other dogs removed from what he described as “horrific” conditions.
In addition to the dogs rescued Friday, Winters said the shelter had already taken in several other animals — including more dogs and even a hog — from another case on Thursday.
Now, the shelter is full and in urgent need of adopters, fosters, or rescue groups who can step in and help.
If you’re interested in adopting or fostering one of the rescued animals, you’re encouraged to contact the Estill County Animal Shelter directly or stop by during regular business hours.
The shelter is located at 50 Ginter Lane in Ravenna, Kentucky. You can reach them by phone at 606-723-3587. They are open Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
