Estill Co. school board member faces charges in court

ESTILL CO., Ky. (WTVQ) – A member of the Estill Co. School Board that was arrested on February 5 has pleaded not guilty to a long list of serious charges.

Amy Thomas was arrested during a traffic stop, after eyewitnesses told police she was seen passing out and having difficulty walking at her daughter’s gymnastics practice.

Police reports say when they stopped Thomas, she had slurred speech and refused a blood alcohol test.  Officers also say they found a loaded gun in her car and a white powdery substance in her wallet.

Thomas faces several charges, including DUI, carrying a concealed weapon, drug possession and wanton endangerment.

Thomas is a school board member in Estill Co. and has been on the board since January 2013.  ABC 36 was told that Thomas is still a member of the school board and is up for re-election in the fall.

Court documents say that she is out on a $2,500 dollar bond, under the condition that she keeps all court appearances and has no unsupervised visits with minors.

Her next hearing is on March 16.
