Estill Co. residents clean up storm damage as flood threat lingers

Crews work to clear debris while streams and creeks turn to rushing water

ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Residents in Estill County and surrounding areas are dealing with widespread damage after severe storms and multiple tornado warnings swept through the region overnight.

Cleanup efforts are underway as fallen trees block roads and damage homes. One large tree outside of Irvine was completely uprooted by high winds before crashing onto a house. Residents say they were inside taking shelter when it happened but were not injured.

Flooding remains a significant concern as heavy rainfall has transformed creeks and streams into fast-moving currents, covering roadways in some areas. Officials are urging drivers to avoid water-covered roads to prevent dangerous situations.
