Escapee captured trying to scale downtown building

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An escapee was captured trying to scale the wall of a downtown building in Lexington on Tuesday, according to the Office of Fayette County Sheriff.

Deputies say 27-year old Timothy Kanatzer was in court to answer to a domestic violence charge. They say he also had an outstanding failure to appear warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies say he was arrested on that warrant and placed in a vehicle at the courthouse.

Investigators say Kanatzer kicked out the window of the vehicle and escaped, while still handcuffed.

Deputies say they caught up with him on the deck of Cheapside Bar and Grill where Kanatzer was trying to scale the wall to escape.

Deputies say they pulled him back over the wall and took him back into custody.

They say no one was hurt.

Kanatzer faces additional charges of escape, fleeing and evading, burglary and criminal mischief, according to the Fayette County Detention Center Website.
