Fredrick Douglas not as overcrowded as originally declared
LEXINGTON, Ky. – (WTVQ) – On Wednesday the Principal of Fredrick Douglas High School, Lester Diaz said the school had 200 more students than expected. But this morning he released another statement saying they are saying they are not as overcrowded as originally declared in yesterday‘s release.
Here is the statement Principal Diaz issued today.
In an effort to maintain open lines of communication between home and school, here is an important message from Fayette County Public Schools.
Douglass Families,
In an effort to maintain open, honest, and transparent communication, I wanted to send you an update about the enrollment information that was sent out yesterday.
As of this morning, our enrollment stands at 1208 students, which is only about 30 higher than our Spring projection from the district. The number of students we projected yesterday was mistakenly compared against our 2017-18 enrollment of 980 instead of the district’s projection of 1170; this caused us to inadvertently calculate our student overage. We apologize for any concern this may have caused.
Over the next few days, we anticipate our enrollment fluctuating as students who’ve moved into our district are enrolled and students who’ve left our district are unenrolled. This fluctuation of enrollments may cause student schedules to change as we balance our class sizes. We appreciate your continued patience and understanding.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your student’s guidance counselor or Academy Principal.
Thank you,
Lester Diaz
