Emotional Departure Ceremony For Kentucky National Guard Unit

There was an emotional send-off on Tuesday in Frankfort for the Kentucky National Guard’s Agri-Business Development Team.

Family and friends said goodbye to their loved ones during a departure ceremony.

The 39-member unit is headed to Afghanistan to help local farmers become more self-sufficient.

The unit will train for five weeks at Camp Atterbury in Indiana before deploying overseas.

The Guard members are expected to be gone for 10-months.

This is the 5th Agricultural Team to go to Afghanistan.

The Guard said this was supposed to be the last team to deploy, but because the program has been such a success, a sixth team is already being trained.
