Lexington extends Emergency Winter Weather Plan as dangerous cold continues

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – With dangerously cold temperatures lingering across the region, Lexington officials are extending the activation of the city’s Emergency Winter Weather Plan through Tuesday morning, according to the Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention.

During the plan’s activation, emergency shelters add extra beds, LexTran provides free fixed-route transportation to shelter locations, and outreach teams are on the streets notifying people about the weather conditions and helping connect them with services.

A key part of the effort is the city’s temporary winter shelter at 1306 Versailles Road, which offers 216 additional beds for adult men and women.
The shelter will operate now through April 1, 2026, with access only from Versailles Road. Daily check-ins are available from noon to 10 p.m.

City officials urge anyone who sees someone who may need shelter to call Lexington Police’s non-emergency line so outreach teams can respond.
