Emergency crews battling fire and cold temperatures

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – Firefighters in Clark County were in for a challenge answering two fire calls overnight and battling the elements while doing it.

While Clark County fire crews responded to a call about a possible fire in the 2000 block of Red River Road; one of their vehicles got stuck in the driveway.

The driveway was not plowed following the recent snowstorm. Luckily there was no fire, but that fire vehicle was stuck for nearly an hour.

Battalion Chief Robert McCord says some of the county roads outside of the city limits are narrow and have yet to be plowed.

He says icy roads and freezing temperatures are problematic even for emergency crews.

“We’re down in an area where we have a lot of steep hills and people can’t get their driveways plowed. It makes it extremely hazardous trying to get our vehicles in and out,” said Battalion Chief McCord.

Crews also responded to a furnace fire on Red River Road. That fire was quickly put out and there were no injuries reported. Fire officials are encouraging people to make sure their furnaces are clean and filters are changed frequently during this cold snap.
