Elderly woman, 2 puppies rescued from house fire in Garrard County

An early morning fire left a home heavily damaged

LANCASTER, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — An elderly woman and two puppies are safe after a house fire early Wednesday morning in Lancaster.

According to officials, fire crews rushed to the home off U.S. 27, where flames were pouring from the roof. Officials say they were able to rescue the woman and the puppies, and everyone made it out safely.

First responders temporarily shut down U.S. 27 while multiple agencies, including the Lancaster Fire Department, worked to control the fire. The road has since reopened.

Firefighters say the home’s construction made it difficult to fully contain the flames. Authorities say surveillance footage later revealed the fire started from an electrical box on the side of the house, causing a power outage before the fire spread. Officials say no further investigation is needed.
