RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ/EKU Public Relations) – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team had two players earn all-conference awards in its first season of the ASUN, the league announced on Thursday.

Freshman Nerea de Diego was named ASUN Freshman of the Year, ASUN Second Team All-Conference and ASUN All-Freshman Team. Fellow freshman Gretta Gunn was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team.

De Diego’s Freshman of the Year award was the first Freshman of the Year award in program history.

“A huge congratulations to Gretta and Nerea. They deserve recognition for their strong performances this season” head coach Matt Cosinuke said. “Opposing head coaches noticed their success and we couldn’t be prouder of them. The deeper meaning for our family, however, is that individual awards are given off the back of the team’s collective effort, commitment, and trust in each other. Our family has big goals for this weekend, and we look forward for the next opportunity to compete together.”

De Diego finished the regular season with three goals, one assist, and seven points. Her three goals ranked tied for second on the team. She finished second on the team with 13 shots on goal and an impressive .684 shot on goal percentage. De Diego has one game winning goal. She was the key piece in the midfield for the Colonels starting all 17 matches.

Gunn was also stellar in her first season as a Colonel posting three goals, three assists, and nine points. Her three goals and nine points were tied for second on the team.
