EKU issues alert after shots fired near campus

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Tense moments on the Eastern Kentucky University campus after an alert is issued overnight.

The university sent the alert telling students on campus to shelter in place after shots were fired near the campus at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday

EKU police say there was a fight involving four men on Second Street then gunfire and the suspects took off.

Two people were arrested on outstanding warrants after a traffic stop on South Madison but Richmond police did not say if it was related.

The shelter-in-place was lifted at around 2:30 a.m.
