EKU falls in first round of FCS playoffs

PHILADELPHIA, PA (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Despite an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter, Eastern Kentucky football fell in round one of the FCS playoffs to 11th ranked Villanova on Saturday 22-17.

Villanova’s defense held EKU scoreless the entire second half. Whereas the wildcats offense continued on with consistency; scoring nine points in the first half and 13 in the second.

Penalties played a significant role throughout the game, the colonels were charged with 10 penalties for 86 yards, while the Wildcats also had 10 penalties for 104 yards.

The referees played another pivotal role in the game. In the third quarter, the colonels looked to have scored on a strip-sack, scoop-and-score, but the call on the field was overturned after review.

The colonels finish their season at 8-5.
