EKU community remembers nursing student killed in crash

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Eastern Kentucky University community in Richmond remembered a nursing student with a vigil Thursday night.

Investigators say earlier this week, 20-year-old Alyssa Moorman of Ohio died in a two-vehicle crash on Jacks Creek Road in Madison County. She was a nursing student. And those who attended the vigil say the loss has affected everyone.

EKU nursing student Casey Berling says, "Everybody is so hurt by this. EKU is such a family, and nursing especially. It just goes up the chain. Everybody knows everybody. it’s just terrible."

Four other people, in the same crash, ended up in the hospital. The Fayette County Coroner says one of those victims, 23-year-old Cody Garcia of Lexington, died Thursday night at U.K. Hospital.
