EKU celebrates new state-of-the art aviation facility

RICHMOND, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Eastern Kentucky University’s already successful aviation program is expected to soar to new heights with a new facility.

“EKU already provides our only university-based aviation program. Right now, the program has more than 460 students,” Governor Andy Beshear said.

Government leaders joined students and staff from EKU to celebrate a monumental moment in both the state and school’s history.

“We have shown the grit that Eastern Kentuckians show and that is from converted FEMA trailers to converted hangars, we have made due as this program has exploded in enrollment,” President of EKU Dr. David McFaddin said.

Students from across 20 different states made their way to kentucky to join EKU’s aviation program.

Not only is the program helping students, but government leaders say this is going to take Kentucky’s already growing economy to newer heights.

“Through consistent messaging and marketing, we will invite others to join us by moving their family to their new Kentucky home, their businesses to their new Kentucky home, we’re encoraging folks to come see all the good things we got going on at EKU and our new Kentucky home,” Governor Beshear said.

This new state-of-the-art facility provides a long list of learning tools for students including a flight simulator lab, flight instruction and a hangar space for aircrafts.
