Eight Horses Die In Barn Fire Near Keeneland
An early-morning fire killed eight thoroughbred horses in Lexington.
The fire was spotted at around 1 a.m. By employees working in the tower at the Blue Grass Airport.
At first it was believed the fire was at Keeneland.
However when firefighters made their way to the scene, they discovered the fire was on a property near track on Rice Road.
Firefighters saID the barn and a shed were already burned to the ground when they arrived.
The eight horses were in the barn. Two other horses were saved.
A home nearby also sustained fire damage.
A firefighter battling the fire was taken to the hospital with a pulled muscle.
There is no word yet on a cause.
