EEOC files harassment suit against Central Kentucky apartment complex owner

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a lawsuit against GEM Management, LLC, a Charlotte-based property management company, for allegedly failing to address sexual harassment claims and forcing an employee to resign.

According to the EEOC, a site manager for a GEM Management property in Stanford, Kentucky, reported being sexually harassed. However, according to an EEOC release, GEM Management did not take appropriate action, directing the employee to continue working with the harasser. This created a hostile work environment, leading to the employee’s resignation, said the release.

The EEOC says that this conduct violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits sex-based discrimination, including sexual harassment.
