Eastbound lane of I-64 shut down due to safety concern

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Officials have shut down the eastbound lane of Interstate 64 near Louisville for emergency construction, causing rush hour traffic snarls.

WDRB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1bBV137 ) the problem stems from an unstable overpass over the interstate that is set to be demolished. Walsh Construction crews saw a problem with the old overpass and engineers determined that it needed repairs.

The interstate near Story Avenue was closed around 10:30 a.m. Friday. The Interstate 65 ramp leading to I-64 was also closed.

The interstate won’t reopen until demolition is complete and inspectors have examined the work.
