Early morning house fire shuts down Leestown Road for hours

GEORGETOWN, Ky.(WTVQ) – Lexington and Scott County fire crews responded to a house fire on Leestown Road around 2 a.m. Thursday.

ABC 36 was told the owners of the home had just moved out two weeks ago. The house is located in the 5400 block and is next to the Kentucky Wildlife Center where over 100 animals live. Crews say that once they arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames.

"It was really scary, I was tending to the animals and got three immediate calls from the Scott County Sheriff!," said Karen Bailey with the Kentucky Wildlife Center. "To get the call that it’s engulfed in flames! I honestly have never seen this many response vehicles in my life: fire trucks, ambulances, police and sheriff vehicles, I couldn’t even get close!"

Authorities say the home was vacant and no one was injured in the fire. Kentucky State Police arson investigators are expected to arrive at the scene Thursday morning.

Leestown Road was shut down for several hours while investigators looked over the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
