Jessamine County, KY (WTVQ): A Thanksgiving Day fire at a home in Nicholasville took the life of a disabled man. The Nicholasville Fire Department received the call around 5:45 Thursday morning to the house on Allision Circle Drive, of a fire trapping a man inside his home.

Jennie Warfield, a neighbor, who says she’s never seen a scene like this before.

She says she woke up to a fire erupting right across the street from her home. She says her son-in-law, John, tried to bust the door down. “We all of course ran outside, it was fully engulfed it was of course blazing back there,” she said. “John finally got the door busted down, but only to be met with a whole face full of smoke. The fire was too intense to go in.”

Warfield says her neighbor had an oxygen tank and was in a wheelchair. “They think the oxygen tank blew up. It was just bad, it busted through the whole back of the house back there,” she said. She says the man who died had a rare cancer, and one of his legs had to be amputated. “But somehow he made it through it,” she said.  “We all knew he was disabled over here, that’s why we tried so hard to get in there to help him. But he survived that cancer.”

The Fire Department says the fire started, in the back of the home, and spread, burning it to the ground and leaving minor damage to homes nearby. The investigation into the fire continues. Authorities have not yet officially released the identify of the victim.
