Laurel County drug bust nets $60K in narcotics; suspect may face federal charges
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A months-long drug investigation in Laurel County has led to a major arrest, and officials say the suspect could soon face federal charges.
According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Keegan Smith was taken into custody on November 20 at a home on Bluegrass Road near East Bernstadt following a five-month investigation.
Deputies say they recovered a significant quantity of illegal drugs, including suspected fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and other substances. The sheriff’s office estimates the total street value of the seized drugs at around $60,000.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is also investigating the case. While Smith is currently being held on state charges, officials say federal charges may be forthcoming.
