Drug suspect fatally shot at hotel

FLORENCE, Ky. (AP) — A drug complaint at a northern Kentucky motel turned into a fatal shooting after police arrived.

Police told media that the shooting occurred Tuesday as Lt. Roger Allen responded to the complaint on the second floor of a Super 8 in Florence. Authorities say Allen knocked at the door and one of the men inside opened fire. Allen was able to take cover and fired back. The gunman was killed, but Florence Police Capt. Tom Grau said it’s unclear who fired the fatal shot.

Allen received a minor injury during the confrontation, but it wasn’t clear whether it came from being shot at or from taking cover.

The hotel was evacuated and the Red Cross was called in to help families that live there. In all, 38 residents were displaced.
