Driver’s permit law update
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky teens eager to get behind the wheel can now schedule their driver’s permit tests at age 15, following legislation recently signed by Gov. Andy Beshear.
As previously reported, Gov. Beshear signed House Bill 15 into law last Tuesday, officially lowering the eligibility age for a learner’s permit from 16 to 15 years old.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, starting Tuesday, April 2, 15-year-olds can schedule appointments with Kentucky State Police for their written permit tests.
Transportation officials remind teens and parents to bring necessary documentation to appointments, including a birth certificate, Social Security card, and a school compliance verification form.
The Transportation Cabinet also recommends downloading and studying Kentucky’s official driver’s manual to prepare for the test.
