Driver killed after jumping into KY River in fiery crash
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Police say a semi driver was killed after jumping into the Kentucky River in a fiery crash. It happened Monday morning on I-75 south.
Police at the scene say the trucker was still in the vehicle when the fire started. They believe the driver caught fire in the crash and jumped into the river. The coroner was called to the scene after police reportedly found his body in the water.
According to the Madison County coroner, officials believe the trucker was a 52-year-old male from Miami, Florida.
Authorities do not know what the contents of the truck were, but say they had HAZMAT teams respond to the scene.
One southbound lane on I-75 was open to traffic, and no other injuries were reported.
