Vehicle crashes into pole and pedestrian bridge in Somerset, driver hospitalized

PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – One person was taken to the hospital early Sunday morning after a crash involving a utility pole and part of a pedestrian bridge in Somerset, according to the Somerset Fire Department.

Fire officials say the crash happened at the intersection of East Highway 80 and North College Street. Crews say the driver left the roadway, struck a pole and knocked down power lines before crashing into a support beam for the pedestrian bridge that crosses Highway 80.

Kentucky Utilities crews were called to the scene to repair the downed power lines. The state highway department also responded to inspect the bridge following the impact.

Officials have not released the driver’s condition. The crash remains under investigation.
