Driver crashes into Georgetown Save-A-Lot while fleeing police, officials say

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A driver is facing multiple charges after crashing into the Save-A-Lot grocery store in Georgetown early Monday morning while allegedly fleeing from police.
According to the Georgetown Police Department, the incident began around 1:50 a.m. when an officer spotted a vehicle traveling 71 mph in a 55 mph zone on McClelland Circle. As the officer turned around to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle was located already crashed along US 25.
Police say as the officer approached to check on the occupants, the vehicle regained traction and sped off northbound on US 25. Moments later, before the officer could get approval to pursue, the vehicle slammed into the Save-A-Lot store.
The driver, identified as Amber Samokar of Winchester, was found inside the building with serious injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

Police say additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
The Georgetown/Scott County Collision Investigation Unit is handling the crash investigation, while the Georgetown Police Department is conducting the criminal investigation.

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A section of North Broadway in Georgetown is shut down after a vehicle crashed into the Save-A-Lot building early Monday morning.
According to Georgetown police, the crash happened around 3 a.m. near the intersection of North Broadway and Jefferson Street. Officers say Broadway is now back open between Jefferson Street and Washington Street after crews worked the scene, and investigators looked into what led up to the crash.
No word yet on injuries or the cause of the crash.
