Dr. Demetrus Liggins named Kentucky’s 2026 Superintendent of the Year

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA) has named Dr. Demetrus Liggins, superintendent of Fayette County Public Schools, as the state’s 2026 Superintendent of the Year, according to a KASA news release.

Dr. Liggins received the award July 25 at KASA’s annual leadership institute in Louisville. According to a release, nominees were evaluated on leadership for learning, communication, professionalism and community involvement. Liggins advances to compete for the national Superintendent of the Year honor in partnership with the American Association of School Administrators.

Liggins has led Kentucky’s second-largest school district since July 2021 and previously served as a superintendent in Texas.
