Downtown Lexington roads closed Friday for Fourth of July celebrations
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Drivers heading through downtown Lexington Friday should be prepared for multiple road closures as the city celebrates the Fourth of July.
Events kicked off early Friday morning with the annual Bluegrass 10K and Fun Run, starting at 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Main Street and North Limestone. Street closures for the run began around 5 a.m.
Later in the day, Main Street will close again for the Fourth of July parade, which steps off at noon and runs from Midland Avenue to Mill Street.
The day’s festivities also include live music and activities on the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza and at Henry A. Tandy Centennial Park, leading up to the city’s fireworks display at 10 p.m. The fireworks will launch near Main Street and Oliver Lewis Way.
Police say some roads in the area will remain closed until about 10:30 p.m., and Oliver Lewis Way is expected to reopen a little later to allow for clean-up.
