Dog rescued after being stranded on cliff above Kentucky River in Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A dog is safe after being stranded on a cliff approximately 100 feet above the Kentucky River in Mercer County on Thursday.

According to Jessamine County Emergency Management, responders from both Jessamine Animal Care and Control and Emergency Management were able to set up a rope system on a nearby farm that overlooked the cliff. The system allowed a rescuer to safely lower down to the stranded animal.

Officials say the rescuer was able to gain the dog’s trust, apply a muzzle and harness, and then safely bring the dog back to the top of the cliff.

Jessamine Animal Care and Control says they are now working to locate the dog’s owners and ensure the animal remains in stable condition.

It’s not clear how the dog ended up on the cliff or how long it had been stranded before the rescue.
