Documents Reveal EKU Basketball Player Accused of Rape Regretful
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- According to the arrest citation for Jaylen Babb-Harrison, the EKU basketball player charged with first degree rape, Babb-Harrison expressed regret.
In the citation, police say Babb-Harrison told them he regretted his actions. It is something students at EKU call a disappointing distraction just before the end of the semester.
Saturday night, the EKU men’s basketball team was victorious over Marshall. The next morning Babb-Harrison was in jail in Madison County.
“I’m honestly glad it was found out about,” Sean Greer, an EKU student, said.
“It does make me mad because it’s personal to me so it does make me very, very angry because I’ve had to fill one of these out before,” Kenidi Morris, another student, said.
In the citation, police say when they asked Babb-Harrison if he thought he crossed the line he said, “Yes”.
He also said, “I should have stopped”, “It happened so fast”, and that he “Should be held accountable for his actions”.
“I’m just really happy they’re prosecuting because colleges have a history of not doing that so I’m thinking it’s a big win,” Greer said.
Babb-harrison is a senior guard on the team. EKU released a statement Sunday, saying he will be suspended from the team pending further investigation, a decision all the students ABC 36 spoke to support.
“A lot of people are going to say, ‘He’s a basketball player. He wouldn’t do that to you. I don’t believe you,’ but I believe you. It did happen to you and it will be okay eventually,” Morris said.
Babb-Harrison is expected in court Wednesday.
